PORTION SIZES VERSUS SERVING SIZES

Most people mistake portion size for serving size. So, what's the difference?
The terms "portion" and "serving" are often used interchangeably, but they don't mean the same thing.
A "portion" is the amount of food you choose to eat for meals or snacks (like a plateful of pasta or a handful of raisins). The amount you choose to put in your plate.
A "serving" on the other hand is the amount of food that experts recommend you eat (like 1 cup of milk or 1 ounce of bread). The standard measurement of food. Servings are listed on a food's nutrition facts label too.
For example, cereals, fruit juices, chocolates are often sold in sizes that constitute at least three to four servings, but most people eat the whole thing ,thinking they have eaten one serving. When buying food and fruit juices it is important to check the nutrition label for serving size. Many times, manufacturers will list unusually small serving sizes so their product appears to have fewer calories and fat. Also when choosing your portion, try to make it as close as possible to these recommended serving sizes.Your health in your hands.
To be contd...
